About the Young Rural Leaders Program 

The MSRF Young Rural Leaders Program is based on a week-long residential training program. All MSRF scholarship holders participate in the program, and additional participants are selected on merit, based on their MSRF scholarship applications or after being referred to MSRF by a partner organisation. Attendance is by invitation only.

Program Aims

  1. Grow existing leadership skills in young, rural Victorians
  2. Foster new leadership skills in young, rural Victorians
  3. Build a network of young rural leaders in Victoria

Program Overview

  • One week residential program conducted in rural Victoria each year
  • Open to youth participants from rural & regional Victoria
  • Designed for young people with demonstrated leadership capabilities or potential
  • Focus on “transformational leadership” – the ability to drive positive change in a rural community
  • Experiential learning based on group activities and supplemented by guest speakers
  • Program content is based on 3 key themes: Sustainable Me; Sustainable Communities; Sustainable Environment
  • All participants become members of the MSRF alumni network
  • All participants are provided with meals and accommodation
  • Program is delivered in partnership with Sovereign Hill Museums Association at the amazing Narmbool property
